#Enforcement #Customs: EUIPO database and Forum to better fight counterfeiting

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) enforcement database (EDB) is a tool to protect against counterfeiting authentic products which have been granted intellectual property rights. Through a register, the EDB makes relevant information concerning authentic products available to enforcement authorities in their own language. Any intellectual property owner/beneficiary can benefit from the EDB by entering the product’s information in the register: https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/en/web/observatory/enforcement-database

As GIs fall under the scope of application of Regulation (EU) No 608/2013 of 12 June 2013 concerning customs enforcement of intellectual property rights, the EDB could represent an interesting tool for GIs.

Within this framework, the EUIPO is organising an EDB Forum in Alicante on 28-29 June 2016. The Forum will tackle the issue of counterfeiting from the perspective of enforcement authorities. Customs and police officers of the 28 EU Member States, as well as the European Commission (DG Taxud and OLAF), Europol and the World Customs Organisation (WCO) will attend the event. The EDB Forum targets both current EDB users, to facilitate network and exchange opportunities with enforcement authorities. Likewise, it will also be an excellent opportunities for interested intellectual property owners/beneficiaries to get registered in the EDB and start to use it: https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/en/web/observatory/enforcement-database-forum-2016

The EDB Forum registration process is open until 31 May: https://www.amiando.com/EDBForum16
