28/06/2012 – Winner of the 2012 oriGIn Award

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Tara L. Capsuto – J.D. Candidate at the UC Berkeley School of Law – is the winner of the 2012 oriGIn Award, organized in cooperation with the Berkeley School of Law. Her paper (“Criteria for U.S. Geographical Indications”) can be read at: http://www.origin-gi.com/images/stories/PDFs/English/papers/Tara_Capsuto_OriGin_paper_May_2012.pdf

As in the US there are no objective criteria to determine which geographical names formally protected or used correspond to the internationally accepted definition of GIs, the work carried out by Tara will be extremely useful for oriGIn in its efforts to come-up with a list of GIs protected in the US for its worldwide GI compilation (see http://www.origin-gi.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=267%3Aorigin-database&Itemid=125&lang=en)
