The 2025 oriGIn Biennial Meeting, held in Morelia from 8 to 10 October, brought together over 600 participants from more than 35 countries for a three-day program full of inspiring activities and exchanges, marking a highly successful gathering for the global GI community.
In this framework, the first edition of the “oriGIn GI Champion Awards” was held, recognizing the commitment and contributions of stakeholders to advancing GI causes. This award celebrates the important achievements by members of our global GI community.

2025 oriGIn GI Champion Awards for public authorities:
Michoacán Government, for its public policies in favor of GI recognition and local development.
2025 oriGIn GI Champion Awards for agricultural GIs:
Confédération Générale de Roquefort, for the centenary of the Roquefort recognition in its country of origin, France, making it a thriving example of resilience and sustainability.
2025 oriGIn GI Champion Awards for spirit GIs:
Consejo Regulador del Tequila, for its efforts and achievements in the protection of the GI Tequila against illegal uses as an aroma.
2025 oriGIn GI Champion Awards for wine GIs:
Consorzio DOC Prosecco, for its efforts and achievements in enforcement activities against trademark applications in conflict with GIs.
2025 oriGIn GI Champion Awards for craft GIs:
Reinforce Intellectual Property Association (RIPA), for its efforts in supporting artisans in indigenous communities in India.
2025 oriGIn GI Champion Award in Memory of Ana Soeiro:
A special award in memory of Ana Soeiro, Executive Director of Qualifica/oriGIn Portugal and Vice President of oriGIn, who passed away this year, in recognition of her inspiring dedication to GIs and oriGIn, with deep gratitude.
