Following the recent decision to establish its Latin America antenna, the global alliance of geographical indications is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Alfredo Rendón Algara as oriGIn’s Representative for Latin America.
With an eminent career in Intellectual Property and Public Policy, including serving as Director General of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), Alfredo brings an extensive experience in Geographical Indications negotiations, policymaking and cooperation initiatives.
“We are delighted to welcome Alfredo Rendón in our team. As oriGIn’s Representative for Latin America, he will lead the regional office, supporting groups across the region in activities related to governance, controls, protection, market access, and sustainability. This with the objective to ensure Latin American Geographical Indications deploy their full development potential. In a period of uncertainty, Alfredo will also engage with public authorities with the objective to reinforce the current rules-based multilateral Geographical Indications system” said Riccardo Deserti, President of oriGIn.
“I am honored to join oriGIn as Representative for Latin America. GIs are experiencing strong growth across the region, gaining momentum in public policies and creating fresh opportunities for alliances and collaborative initiatives. I look forward to supporting producers, expanding oriGIn global network of groups and partners in the region, as well as promoting international cooperation initiatives in the field of Geographical Indications” commented Alfredo Rendón.
