On 5 and 6 November 2026, oriGIn and Origen España, in collaboration with the EUIPO, are jointly organising the International Conference on Strengthening Geographical Indication (GI) Cooperation Projects. It will take place at the EUIPO Headquarters in Alicante and online.
Register her (in person or online). Registration is required for both formats. Deadline for the registration is 22 October 2026 for onsite participation and 4 November 2026 for online participation. Onsite places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
This is the first international event entirely dedicated to cooperation in the GI sector, bringing together the key players in the field: donors, development agencies, international organisations, IP offices, experts and the GI groups at the heart of every project.
Over the past twenty years, cooperation projects have played a key role in protecting and developing GIs worldwide, in agricultural products, food, wines, spirits and crafts. Today, GIs are also increasingly recognised as a tool for responding to new challenges, such as climate change adaptation, rural depopulation, youth employment, women-led entrepreneurship and the resilience of local economies.
Building on this experience, participants will draw lessons from past initiatives and define priorities for the next generation of GI cooperation projects, fostering the coordination and synergies needed to make them more effective and ready for emerging challenges.
