12/03/2025-Data collection on counterfeit food, wines and beverages (including GIs) for the EUIPO Media Campaign on the respect of IP rights

Every year, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) runs a pan-European media campaign, which is known as ‘Spring Campaign’, choosing a topic related to IP of interest both to the media itself and to the general consumers. This campaign is always linked to the World Anti-Counterfeiting Day(s) (first half of June).

The topic of the 2025 Campaign most probably will be related to counterfeit food, wines and beverages, including GIs.

In order to strengthen the basis of the campaign, factual evidence is needed  (real examples and /or statistics) of known cases mainly of counterfeit food and drinks that have had a serious impact on consumer health and/or the economy/society.

By way of indication, but not limitation, the information/data could relate to real numbers on counterfeit goods, sectors/products affected, numbers of seizures, places of entry of the counterfeit products, targeted markets, the impact of fake good and drinks on people’s health, the economic effects on geographical indications (given that they are value-added products, but also of quality in contrast to their counterfeit products), on the society, tips and tricks on how consumers could be alert to recognize a fake GI product etc., or measures that could be taken in this direction.

If you have any data along the above lines, please contact directly Ms. Erifyli Manousou erifyli.manousou@euipo.europa.eu, by 21 March.
