#Cambodia #GenevaAct: Cambodia is the first country to join the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement

On 9 March, Cambodia joined the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications. As the EU is preparing its accession to the same treaty, the Geneva Act is generating renewed interest.

During the 2015 WIPO Diplomatic Conference, which led to the adoption of Geneva Act, oriGIn had invited Lao Reasey, Deputy Director of the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of Cambodia, to attend the Conference and participate in GIs events – We are proud to see that Cambodia became the first country to join the Geneva Act.

#Brexit: implications for GIs and principles to follow to reduce legal uncertainty

oriGIn is following the negotiations between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) concerning the UK withdrawal from the EU (“Brexit”).

We have prepared this paper and sent it to the negotiators from both sides. The paper highlights the implications of “Brexit” for GIs and identifies some core principles that in our view should be followed by the UK and the EU to ensure “Brexit” reduces as much as possible any legal uncertainty for GIs beneficiaries as well as consumers. The application of these principles will ensure GIs continue to thrive.
