#EU #Spirits: oriGIn comments on the Draft Spirit Drinks Regulation and its implications for GIs

The EU is currently reforming Regulation EC 110/2008 on Spirit Drinks.

As the draft Regulation is currently discussed by the European Parliament, oriGIn in cooperation with its members in the spirits’ sector, analysed it and made some comments to ensure spirits GIs are fully protected and key GIs principles taken into account by the reform. Such comments have been transmitted to the rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs of the European Parliament Committees working on this reform.

Please have a look in particular at the comment “Fake Geographical Indications in transit through the EU – Article 18 (new)”, as this can become an interesting precedent for wines, agricultural and non-agricultural GIs, to strengthen the protection at the EU level.
