Introduction
On 16 November 2023, the Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 on the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial products entered into force. Its full implementation is scheduled for 1 December 2025. Existing national rights (within EU Member States having domestic systems for the protection of craft and industrial GIs) will cease to exist on 2 December 2026. Iconic EU names such as Murano glass, Albacete cutlery, Porcelaine de Limoges, Solingen cutlery, and Piel de Ubrique will then benefit from a single registration and protection system covering the 27 Member States.
